Yo! What happened to Tolerance, what happened to Love?
I thought we were progressing but it looks like we've actually devolved
What happened to Facts, what happened to Nothing But The Truth?
What happened to voicing our concerns without being savagely or uncouth
It's no news, the recent happenstances in the city of Charlottesville
Makes me wonder if and when our nation is going to heel, I mean, heal
To decipher the motive behind people's actions, I play this little game
I ask myself a few questions and try to get to the bottom of the thing
This, however, for the life of me, was shockingly insane; man, I feel ashamed
Ridiculousness at its best, I'm blown out of the frame by their ignorant claims!
Well, maybe folks never really loved, maybe they never really tolerated
Maybe love itself is just a four-letter word that's simply overrated
Must everything be filtered through race, gender and sexual orientation?
What exactly is it that we're trying to pass on to the future generations?
It's funny how people allow themselves to get sold dreams they can't pay for
There's so much good in the world that you and I can be involved in, way more
Men and women hustled and died, fought and survived to protect this country
Against the same damn thing for which some 21st-century folks are hungry
What an irony, Christ said "Do unto others as you would like to be done by"
We'd rather be mean to one another instead of forging some real strong ties
Earlier on this year, I read this book - Sapiens: A Brief History Of Mankind
Crazy how instead of loving one another, we'd rather install land mines
So when I see flicks of folks walking around carrying those damned signs,
I'm more than convinced that we're approaching the famed end time
Didn't Christ advise that love was something we all had to foster?
"If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others?"
Shouldn't be all about your tribe; neither should it be only about my people
Some may say all humans aren't created alike but I know WE ARE ALL EQUAL!
Hmmmn...what a tangled web we weave, when we first practice to deceive
How great life would be when we first admit our errors and actively forgive!
Like The Beatles and Mary J. Blige eloquently sang, Love, is really all we need
It's time to rid ourselves of all that vitriol, the bile, and all that childish greed
Sad I am, as I write - I hope this here is a thought-provoking read
